America's Oldest Letterpress Print Shop, Still Rolling Ink

Tour the legendary Nashville studio where every poster is pulled by hand, one color at a time.

About Us

Since 1879, Hatch Show Print has been setting type, locking up wooden blocks, and pulling ink across paper in a process that hasn't changed much in over 140 years. Sitting on Rep. John Lewis Way S in downtown Nashville, the shop has printed concert posters for country legends, boxing champions, and traveling circuses, and the proof lines every wall in layers of overlapping color and sawdust-scented history.

Step inside and the first thing you notice is the smell: ink, wood, and something that feels like a working archive. The presses are not decorative. They run. Artists here still hand-set type from trays of wooden and metal fonts, carve custom blocks, and register each color by feel as much as measurement. The result is a poster with a texture and warmth that no digital file can replicate.

Visitors consistently call the tour and letterpress class one of the most memorable stops in Nashville, and it's easy to see why. You're not watching a demonstration behind glass. You're pulling the press handle yourself, watching ink transfer to paper, and walking out with something you actually made.

What We Offer

Tours and letterpress classes run regularly and are open to curious beginners, working designers, and print obsessives alike. A guided tour walks you through the shop's full history, introduces you to the working presses, and shows you the archive of original blocks dating back generations. The class goes further: you'll set type, lock up a form, and pull your own print to take home.

The retail store carries an ever-changing selection of original Hatch posters, prints, and merchandise. Many designs are exclusive to the shop and can't be found anywhere else. Custom printing is also available for clients who want their event, album, or brand rendered in the unmistakable Hatch letterpress style, complete with the slight impression and ink variation that make each piece one of a kind.

Group bookings, private events, and corporate tours can be arranged for teams who want a hands-on creative experience that's rooted in genuine craft rather than a team-building gimmick.

"One of the coolest experiences we had on our trip to Nashville was a tour and letterpress class at Hatch Show Print. It was so incredible hearing all the insight into how the letterpress poster shop got its start and went on to create some of the most iconic artwork for music show posters all over Nashville and the US. The tour is a must-see for anyone who is a lover of both music and design."

"I work at the oldest custom picture frame shop in Denver, and toured Hatch Show Print while in Nashville visiting family recently. The shop is incredible, the artists who work the shop even more so!! The shop’s rich history as told by our passionate tour guide, whose name I can’t remember, but has work at Hatch for like 30 years, spent time talking with us long after the tour had ended, made it such a warm experience!!! Then, there’s the art! I purchased Many pieces, one of which I framed for family members in Nashville!! Attached are some photos of how that one turned:) I Highly recommend a visit to Hatch, for everyone visiting Music City!!! Jeff Protsman, Denver"

"This experience was so cool for it just being about posters and how posters are made. The insane level of detail and the amount of work that goes into designing and creating a poster is unbelievable. This 150-year-old shop is so neat. I can’t stress that enough. You also get to take home your own poster by using a vintage roller to help make it."

"Highly recommend visiting and taking the tour! Learned a lot of history during tour. Our 2 guides were absolutely amazing. Both extremely friendly as well as knowledgeable of the company's history. Each person taking tour will learn the process from beginning to end on how each poster/print is created. Each person also will get to press their own print as well!"

"The Hatch Print Show tour is an absolute must! It’s such a fascinating glimpse into a unique industry that has preserved the art of printmaking for over a hundred years. What really impressed me is their commitment to handcrafting everything without relying on computers – it’s all done the old-fashioned way, and the results are stunning. The tour itself is super fun, informative, and gives you a real appreciation for the artistry behind every piece. Highly recommend for anyone interested in history, art, or just a great experience!"
